Quality Hematology Analyzers and Equipment for Researchers, Hospitals and Physicians’ Offices

Hematology Analyzers

Cellular and morphological analyses conducted during hematology testing involve several delicate steps that require accurate and efficient implementation. [1]  Often, these tests are time-sensitive as they are crucial for the screening, diagnosis, and monitoring of patient medical conditions. Utilizing the right equipment is, therefore, essential to optimizing hematology analysis workflows, which in turn will yield more accurate and quicker turnaround times. These time demands are especially important in point-of-care settings, since results are typically needed during same-day visits.

Whether it be for a differential leukocyte analysis, cell blood count (CBC), hemoglobin testing, white blood cell (WBC) testing, or other hematology test, [2] Jant Pharmacal offers a wide selection of hematology supplies. Here, you can find a full suite of instrumentation for your lab needs, including reagents, blood smearing systems, and automated hematology analyzers for low, medium, and high throughput labs.

Hematology analysis utilizes several different techniques, such as flow cytometry, absorption spectroscopy, and impedance measurement,[1]  and several hematology analyzers can offer these technologies. Flow cytometry (also known as the flow-through method), is a rapidly advancing method that is typically utilized to determine cells in a volume of sample via light scatter properties. Proper implementation of this approach enables the rapid measurement of cells, for example, leukocytes and lymphocytes.

A more traditional method, known as electrical impedance, employs electrodes that are placed in a narrow aperture to analyze the blood. Changing impedances are associated with cell volume, which is then used to derive cell count. Peripheral blood film (PBF) is also an essential step in blood sample analysis and can be used in conjunction with automated hematology analyzers. During PBF, a blood sample is dried, fixed to a glass slide, and subsequently stained to determine varying types of cells. The slide is then analyzed through a microscope to identify abnormalities. Used in conjunction with a hematology analyzer, health care practitioners can produce more detailed and thorough reports on patient conditions.

Methodologies involved with these techniques require strict adherence to appropriate procedures and protocols, in addition to the use of proper processing instrumentation. From preparing a blood smear to running total CBCs, we can provide automated solutions and supplies for your lab to ensure compliance with ISO 15189 medical laboratory standards. [3] Our hematology analyzers present a streamlined and automated solution that can help reduce human error commonly found during the sample analysis process; systems can perform rapid staining and automated analyses for multiple samples with high accuracy and precision.

Additionally, these analyzers can report several other parameters that provide additional useful information, such as reticulocyte hemoglobin content (CHr). CHr delivers data over the last 3 to 4 days on the functional iron available for erythropoiesis,[2] a parameter that is perhaps underutilized, but nonetheless is offered in many of our system options.

Sourcing equipment from multiple vendors can be time-consuming, costly, and even daunting task. Our selection of hematology instrumentation will help equip your lab to streamline the workflow.

They include 3-part differential analysis ( Horiba ABX Micros 60 Hematology Analyzer) and 5-part differential (Horiba ABX Pentra 60 C+ Hematology Analyzer for low throughput and Horiba ABX Pentra XL 80 Hematology Analyzer for high throughput with autoloader) technology options. Notably, 3-part differential systems report on 3 types of white blood cells (WBCs) (lymphocytes, monocytes and neutrophils,) and are typically used in physician offices. 5-part differential systems report on all WBC types and utilize flow cytometry to differentiate white blood cells (more commonly used in specialized laboratories, oncology clinics, and large hospitals).

The Horiba HemaPrep Blood Smearing System is also a great lab addition that helps standardize the smear-making process, thereby minimizing variances in sample length and thickness due to user error. This hematology instrumentation is suitable for hospitals, doctor’s offices, research labs, and veterinary clinics (please see our Horiba ABX Micros ESV for Vet Hematology) and will reinvent the way blood samples are processed, analyzed, and reported in your lab, resulting in improved patient care and productivity.
